I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
"Ooph!"
The air rushed out of Loudpaw's lungs as the ginger tabby hit the ground. Sand flew in a cloud around him, stinging the young tom's eyes as he rolled away in time to miss Gingerstorm's pounce. The ginger she-cat snarled in frustration and lunged again just as Loudpaw found his feet. Yowling in surprise, the tom backpedaled rapidly to avoid her fangs before ducking his head low and leaping forward. It was Gingerstorm's turn to yowl, which quickly turned to wheezing, when Loudpaw headbutted her in the chest. Wheeling back, the she-cat stumbled and barley caught herself, spitting at Loudpaw with the fur along her hackles and spine standing on end. Loudpaw didn't give her too long to recover, barreling forward and springing at the older warrior, catching his claws in her fur and throwing his body weight to the right. Gingerstorm hissed and snarled, her frustrated sounds mixing with Loudpaw's own obnoxious battle cry. The end result was the two ginger cats crashing to the soft ground, sending sand flying as they writhed and struggled with one another. Loudpaw grabbed at Gingerstorm's shoulders and the she-cat aimed to swipe his whiskers off, the two lashing out despite being nearly blind from the flying sand.
It felt like ages before Gingerstorm finally threw Loudpaw to the ground, the younger tom growling as he hit the ground and immediately trying to scramble up. A clawed paw planted itself on his belly and shoved the apprentice back down, shoving the wind from his lungs for the second time in the last few minutes. Gingerstorm growled low in her chest, pressing her full weight into the foot on Loudpaw's chest, her ears laid flat to her head and her amber eyes flashing.
"Stay down," Gingerstorm growled.
Wheezing, Loudpaw tried to wriggle under the she-cat's weight but...damn Gingerstorm might as well have been a boulder.
"Never!" Loudpaw wheezed, flailing weakly to free himself.
Snarling, Gingerstrom shoved off of Loudpaw and took a swipe at his muzzle. It took the tom by surprise more than it probably should have. The hot sting of Gingerstorm's claws on his cheek had Loudpaw hissing and spitting, half lunging at the she-cat but it was too late. She danced out of reach and whirled around, stalking away toward camp with her tail lashing.
"Keep your mouth shut about my brother!" Gingerstorm yowled over her shoulder.
Gritting his fangs the young apprentice glared after her. "Fox-breathed old tiger!" Loudpaw yelled after her, glaring until her tail disappeared into the dense foliage surrounding the sandy hollow. As soon as she was gone, Loudpaw flopped back against the sand with a groan of frustration, rolling onto his back and glaring at the blue sky overhead. "Stupid old porcupine," Loudpaw grumbled, tail lashing against the soft ground. "Can't even take a joke. Who does she think she is anyway? Locustflight can fight his own battles. If he ever quits laying around. Who died and put her in charge anyway?" Rolling onto his side, Loudpaw pushed himself up and tried in vain to shake some of the sand from his fur. "Oh well...that wasn't a half bad workout." Licking a paw a few times, he swiped it over the fresh cuts on his left cheek. "Her aim is terrible..."
Too caught up in his running commentary to no one in particular, Loudpaw failed to notice he actually had an audience.
